Episode summary: If there’s anything Casey Stubbs knows, it’s the mindset and self-discipline required in making and managing money. As an 18-year-old man in the army, he invested a little bit of his paycheck each month. He didn’t make much but knew that within time, it would pay off.
He set strict rules for himself on when to invest, when to move money, and when to withdraw money. And these money managing skills rolled onto just daily and maintenance budgeting, which also sets him free from living paycheck to paycheck. The mindset is HUGE when it comes to money.

[Casey Stubbs]: hey Nick i’m doing great thanks forhaving me today
[Nick McGowan]: absolutely i’m excited that you’re here wewere talking about how we connected and we
[Nick McGowan]: connected through a couple of different mediumslinked in and sales cast and we were
[Nick McGowan]: just kind of loving on the salescast people so i know isn’t part of
[Nick McGowan]: my ad art of the of thepodcast and the show but we both kind
[Nick McGowan]: of level on sales cast so salescast dot co that’s free for you chris
[Nick McGowan]: man i appreciate your being on theshow case and want to jump in as
[Nick McGowan]: quickly as we can with this becausei feel like you and i are going
[Nick McGowan]: to have a lot of stuff thatwe get into so why don’t you tell
[Nick McGowan]: us what do you do for livingand what’s that one thing that most people
[Nick McGowan]: don’t know about you that’s maybe ahotter bizarre
[Casey Stubbs]: okay so [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: what i do is i’m an onlinemarketer and trader and i’ve been debating about
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: what’s our bizarre about me and iwould guess the biggest
[Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: author it’s that i have nine [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: kids [Nick McGowan]: yeah yeah yeah i guess that wouldbe a bit different than most people are
[Nick McGowan]: they all close to age to thesame age is it like irish twins like
[Nick McGowan]: a whole bunch of them or what [Casey Stubbs]: two twins are actually one twin butthat’s two so twins and then
[Nick McGowan]: one pair [Casey Stubbs]: then i adopted two girls so thatadded to it and you know that was
[Casey Stubbs]: not really planned it just kind ofhappened and so then
[Nick McGowan]: huh [Casey Stubbs]: their ages are separated from twenty threeto eight
[Nick McGowan]: wow she’s they all live under thesame roof
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: and [Casey Stubbs]: they’re [Nick McGowan]: how big [Casey Stubbs]: still [Nick McGowan]: is that [Casey Stubbs]: they’re [Nick McGowan]: roof [Casey Stubbs]: still home they’re still we got areally big house we live way
[Nick McGowan]: ah [Casey Stubbs]: out in the country it’s an oldfarmhouse
[Nick McGowan]: nice yeah i wouldn’t really think you’dbe able to live in like the middle
[Nick McGowan]: of the city in a condo likea six hundred square
[Casey Stubbs]: m [Nick McGowan]: foot condo [Casey Stubbs]: m [Nick McGowan]: or something you know [Casey Stubbs]: yeah we got we got a lotof room when the kids can
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: go out and play and you knowget in the woods and do that kind
[Casey Stubbs]: of fun stuff [Nick McGowan]: that’s cool so is that how yougrew up did you grow up kind of
[Nick McGowan]: on a farm or rural area [Casey Stubbs]: yeah actually i was pretty rural actuallymy high school graduating class only had twelve
[Casey Stubbs]: students and some [Nick McGowan]: who [Casey Stubbs]: of the were so rem that studentswere actually in different time zones from the
[Casey Stubbs]: school some of them [Nick McGowan]: ye ow does how does that work [Casey Stubbs]: uh well it’s on the border ofeastern oregon eastern oregon
[Nick McGowan]: okay [Casey Stubbs]: and idaho and so now there’s that’swhere the time
[Nick McGowan]: interesting [Casey Stubbs]: zone the times the time lines overthere and so from eastern are from
[Nick McGowan]: m oh [Casey Stubbs]: pacific to mountain and [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: yeah we had twelve people our footballteam are eight it was eight man football
[Casey Stubbs]: twelve total and sometimes we’d have todrive like two hours three hours just to
[Casey Stubbs]: get some groceries [Nick McGowan]: hell [Casey Stubbs]: really far away [Nick McGowan]: jes [Casey Stubbs]: out there [Nick McGowan]: yeah and there are still people iknow that do that or that grow up
[Nick McGowan]: differently from that and then gravitate tothat as they get a little older but
[Nick McGowan]: it’s always interesting to me how somepeople kind stick with the things that that
[Nick McGowan]: they grew up with and they’re likei want more of this and you going
[Nick McGowan]: to grow up in that area andthen you have nine kids now in this
[Nick McGowan]: whole big house is kind of itsounds like something that you kind of grew
[Nick McGowan]: up with that you were used tobut how did you get into into what
[Nick McGowan]: you’re doing like honestly from hearing tradingand a lot of people i think we
[Nick McGowan]: should break down what that actually meansbecause that can mean different things different people
[Nick McGowan]: and most of it’s kind of probablycrap what they think about like it’s just
[Nick McGowan]: some false narrative they have with itbut how would you get into trading from
[Nick McGowan]: being in a very super roar areaand what most people would think of would
[Nick McGowan]: just be kind of farm land andjust doing kind of the heavy lifting work
[Casey Stubbs]: so the way that i was outin that rural area
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: is that my dad was a decentmechanic and he worked in a gold mine
[Casey Stubbs]: that [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: was out in the middle of nowhereout in the mountains and so
[Nick McGowan]: a [Casey Stubbs]: he was working on the big truckswould haul out the dirt and big dumb
[Casey Stubbs]: trucks and stuff like that so [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: he was a stock guy as wellhe would buy stocks and i was into
[Casey Stubbs]: computers and he didn’t know anything aboutcomputers because that was early nineties when the
[Casey Stubbs]: stocks first started [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: to get online and then he’s likehey i need to figure out how
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: to set up this computer i don’tknow what i’m doing so i helped him
[Casey Stubbs]: set up the computer and then iwas like wow stocks these are really cool
[Casey Stubbs]: you can actually make money at thisso i got really excited about that as
[Casey Stubbs]: a young like sixteen year old likewow this is really cool and so to
[Casey Stubbs]: define trading for you trading is basicallyjust buying and selling ox
[Nick McGowan]: hm so when i think of daytrader i think if somebody that’s got fifteen
[Nick McGowan]: different screens in front of them andlooking at all things with all these different
[Nick McGowan]: red and green lines and all thestuff they need to go through that seems
[Nick McGowan]: like that would be pretty crazy justfrom aging your mind set through all of
[Nick McGowan]: that let alone the rest of lifebut even just the look you give when
[Nick McGowan]: when i say that doesn’t sound likethat’s actual reality
[Casey Stubbs]: so yeah fifteen monitors is not ionly am looking at six right now as
[Casey Stubbs]: i talk to you and i’ve got [Nick McGowan]: okay [Casey Stubbs]: your face [Nick McGowan]: good [Casey Stubbs]: on all six monitors so if yousee me going all over the place it’s
[Nick McGowan]: um [Casey Stubbs]: because i yeah [Nick McGowan]: m uh uh [Casey Stubbs]: but [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: you know it is kind of stressfulbut i don’t
[Nick McGowan]: my [Casey Stubbs]: do have six monitors but that’s nota big deal what is really the challenge
[Casey Stubbs]: and it’s not stressful if you manageyour mindset but the big challenge is
[Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: self mastery right because trading is reallyquite simple
[Nick McGowan]: yes [Casey Stubbs]: hard part is self mastery [Nick McGowan]: what do you mean by that [Casey Stubbs]: so when you’re trading you have tohave a risk management plan and when you’re
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: trading uh it’s really important that youlearn the foundational skills that are necessary to
[Casey Stubbs]: be successful and so i would saya good percentage of the people that start
[Casey Stubbs]: especially with this new covid thing wheneverybody was trying to make money in the
[Casey Stubbs]: markets after they got were working fromhome
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: they try to get into the marketto get a lot of money fast and
[Casey Stubbs]: they’re trying to it’s basically like acasino they think they can come in some
[Casey Stubbs]: money [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: down and walk out with a bigcheck it’s like going to the know we
[Casey Stubbs]: just had the billion dollar lottery youcan’t you know everybody’s throwing down money trying
[Casey Stubbs]: to get the billion dollars but [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: the reality is you can’t really solve [Nick McGowan]: what [Casey Stubbs]: a financial problem unless you solve thefinancial problem and usually that
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: financial problem is looking at yourself inthe mirror because you don’t know how
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: to financially you don’t self master youdon’t know how to manage money and so
[Casey Stubbs]: if you can’t [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: solve that problem trading is not going [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: to help you go in to acasino is not going to help you and
[Casey Stubbs]: win in the lottery is not goingto help
[Nick McGowan]: make [Casey Stubbs]: you [Nick McGowan]: it worse yeah it’s funny how manyhow many stories there are with people that
[Nick McGowan]: win the lottery and then there arecompletely bankrupt within a couple of years because
[Nick McGowan]: you didn’t fix the problem you didn’thelp learn how to use their money you
[Nick McGowan]: just gave em a whole but loadof it and you’re like here you go
[Nick McGowan]: by whatever random things you want haveat it
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: you don’t have any more it’s beentwenty four months what happened
[Casey Stubbs]: well [Nick McGowan]: yes [Casey Stubbs]: the secret is number one don’t tellyour family of friends
[Nick McGowan]: yeah exactly i’ve seen people [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: show up and get the pictures withlike the giant check and like a scream
[Nick McGowan]: mask or something like no one knowswho i am
[Casey Stubbs]: so so what is your thoughts onthe lottery with the big billion dollar pat
[Casey Stubbs]: are you like getting into [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: involved with that [Nick McGowan]: not really honestly i’m one of thosepeople where like if i hear of power
[Nick McGowan]: ball or something crazy and i’m atthe grocery store and it comes to mind
[Nick McGowan]: while i’m like near the machine andi actually have cash on me then yeah
[Nick McGowan]: i’ll go do it but for themost point like i don’t really care i
[Nick McGowan]: don’t think like oh my god thatwould be crazy if i want all that
[Nick McGowan]: money now it’s interesting to like dreamabout that what if and what would you
[Nick McGowan]: do because i think every single personhas thought that as soon as you learn
[Nick McGowan]: like there’s an opportunity you could makemillions or billions or even like a hundred
[Nick McGowan]: and fifty bucks you’re like what wouldi do with that how would i go
[Nick McGowan]: about using it blab but it’s notlike i look at that and bank on
[Nick McGowan]: it i’m glad that you bring thisup because i was actually at a u
[Nick McGowan]: i was at some rest not arestaurant like this little shop that was attached
[Nick McGowan]: to a restaurant in this guy iwas buying some basically like twenty or thirty
[Nick McGowan]: dollar lottery tickets like the higher dollarlottery tickets not your dollar scratch off sort
[Nick McGowan]: of deal and he was super pickyabout the one that he wanted he wanted
[Nick McGowan]: this one that he just saying fortylike the fortieth one like that one and
[Nick McGowan]: as soon as he got it hehe just shook
[Casey Stubbs]: m [Nick McGowan]: and was excited like he got thisgolden ticket from willy banka was like man
[Nick McGowan]: you didn’t even do anything yet didas you paid for it like you have
[Nick McGowan]: no idea what’s on it you knowlike he could have been walked out and
[Nick McGowan]: he’s like i made three dollars likei got super excited but he was all
[Nick McGowan]: excited and it was like the thrillof that tential to be able to get
[Nick McGowan]: all of that money [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: and i could see in this guy’seyes that he was just in it for
[Nick McGowan]: that thrill so if that guy wouldhave won that money i don’t know what
[Nick McGowan]: he would have done you know it’salmost like you can’t really tell what somebody’s
[Nick McGowan]: going to do in that situation untilsomething actually happens like how people are like
[Nick McGowan]: oh if somebody had a gun inmy head or i d punch him in
[Nick McGowan]: the face i would do this iwould that
[Casey Stubbs]: right [Nick McGowan]: s like meanwhile somebody has a gunto their head there in the corner their
[Nick McGowan]: pants [Casey Stubbs]: i [Nick McGowan]: are soaked [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: and they are just crying like alittle baby
[Casey Stubbs]: uh [Nick McGowan]: you know [Casey Stubbs]: uh [Nick McGowan]: but you know [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: they acted tough [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: in theory [Casey Stubbs]: uh [Nick McGowan]: but [Casey Stubbs]: h [Nick McGowan]: you don’t really know until that stuffhappens now have you ever have you ever
[Nick McGowan]: played and won anything substantial [Casey Stubbs]: you know i’m not really into iti actually never do it but i just
[Casey Stubbs]: couldn’t help it laughing because i’m theguy
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: you were describing me because i’m theguy in my head that has all these
[Casey Stubbs]: scenarios like if something happens [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: i’m going to be like a herobecause i used to work at a gas
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: station you know and as the telleryou know the guy who and those guys
[Casey Stubbs]: get robbed a lot so i waslike i had my plan it was pretty
[Nick McGowan]: u [Casey Stubbs]: funny but who knows what actually [Nick McGowan]: h [Casey Stubbs]: do but i do think that ifyou plan in advance
[Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: it helps [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: because i’ve been in a lot ofsituations where knowing what to do in advance
[Casey Stubbs]: has helped me and i think [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: you nailed it when you said youknow what would you do with the money
[Casey Stubbs]: right you could have asked that guylike hey man what are you going to
[Casey Stubbs]: do if you’re going to win andi even think about it like what would
[Casey Stubbs]: i do it because you know [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: i have tried to have plans forall my money and if i was going
[Nick McGowan]: yah [Casey Stubbs]: to win i would really want toplan even beforehand
[Nick McGowan]: yeah big time well that’s that’s astep that i think a lot of people
[Nick McGowan]: want to do but then when theythink about doing even like a simple home
[Nick McGowan]: budget [Casey Stubbs]: oh [Nick McGowan]: the like you know it’s kind ofa pain i got to jump and this
[Nick McGowan]: thing now granted there are the peopleand some of them listen to this show
[Nick McGowan]: where they’re like are kidding me ilove that i live for this like finances
[Nick McGowan]: or numbers that is their jam andthen there are a lot of people where
[Nick McGowan]: they just don’t because it brings upfor them things that they have to stop
[Nick McGowan]: doing where they’re like oh i haveto stop buying this i have to stop
[Nick McGowan]: going to get this or that andto
[Casey Stubbs]: yes [Nick McGowan]: go back to what we were kindof talking about a little bit before it’s
[Nick McGowan]: not as much about being restrictive andthat sort of stuff as it is just
[Nick McGowan]: understanding the core base of it andfixing your own problems with it so how
[Nick McGowan]: do you how do you go abouthelping people with that that are struggling and
[Nick McGowan]: say hey want to make more moneyi want to get into trading i want
[Nick McGowan]: o do things but you know thatclearly there’s some let’s say mental problems or
[Nick McGowan]: you know some bad patterns that theyhave in their life where they’re going to
[Nick McGowan]: they’re just going to botch it ifthey get in
[Casey Stubbs]: well i think you made a greatpoint when you said that not so much
[Casey Stubbs]: as [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: restricting don’t look at it as restrictingand say i can’t have this think about
[Casey Stubbs]: what it is that you’re trying toaccomplish right i
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: think that vision is the number onething because if you don’t have a vision
[Casey Stubbs]: for your life then you don’t reallyhave anything reason to save right so i’m
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: not going to spend on this sothat i can later on spend on this
[Casey Stubbs]: other thing that is going to bemuch greater than the thing that i’m putting
[Casey Stubbs]: aside right now and can decide fornow later on if i want to get
[Casey Stubbs]: it since i’m accomplishing my goals ican have as much as that as i
[Casey Stubbs]: possibly want like here’s a great exampleand i’m not really answering your question but
[Casey Stubbs]: i’ll just when i was young ayoung man
[Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: i joined the army and i wasmaking eight hundred bucks a month right and
[Casey Stubbs]: that’s not a lot of money wheni left four years later i had thirty
[Casey Stubbs]: thousand dollars in stocks trading just becausei was i had a vision for doing
[Casey Stubbs]: something with my life and everybody else [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: around me they all live in paycheck to pay check we all made the
[Casey Stubbs]: same money but they were broke andi was rich what’s the difference
[Nick McGowan]: hm and yeah it’s got to it’stough you’re in a situation where you have
[Nick McGowan]: to live pay check to pay checkbecause some crazy thing happened and you need
[Nick McGowan]: to spend a lot of money likeif something breaks in your house and you
[Nick McGowan]: have to replace the entire a cand there goes fifteen k just out of
[Nick McGowan]: a savings [Casey Stubbs]: ah [Nick McGowan]: account [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: that can be really really tough formost people but that’s a it’s a rarity
[Nick McGowan]: right it’s not like something that happensall the time fact sees specifically you’re supposed
[Nick McGowan]: to last you basically fifteen twenty yearsor whatever it is but prepping for that
[Nick McGowan]: without driving yourself crazy and being kindof a doomsday financial prepare how do you
[Nick McGowan]: suggest that somebody go about doing thaton a tactical level that they can actually
[Nick McGowan]: start using [Casey Stubbs]: a great tactical [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: level is to plan for it rightso if you own a house you have
[Casey Stubbs]: a ten percent maintenance offset so inmy budget i automatically have maintenance right so
[Casey Stubbs]: it’s not being it’s kind of weirdbecause it’s not being touched and so a
[Casey Stubbs]: lot of people will the reason theylive patriot check as they look at their
[Casey Stubbs]: bank account and they’re like okay igot a thousand bucks right i’m going to
[Casey Stubbs]: go spend that but if you sayoh
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: ten percent ten per cent that’s that’smaintenance money so every time ten
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: per cent goes off and it’s orwhatever the percentage is so just planning for
[Casey Stubbs]: that and the more that you spendon it the better you get it learning
[Casey Stubbs]: to budget and plan your expenses [Nick McGowan]: now how did you tie that intohow you go about trading and looking at
[Nick McGowan]: what to trade [Casey Stubbs]: so with trading it’s very similar becausei have i have a risk tolerance for
[Casey Stubbs]: trade so if i if i’m goingto buy amazon i’ll buy a bunch of
[Casey Stubbs]: shares of amazon and i’m like okayi’m going to put in an area that
[Casey Stubbs]: if this trade goes against me i’mgetting out so i’m going to say okay
[Casey Stubbs]: if i get in it i’m losingfive hundred dollars i’m just going to close
[Casey Stubbs]: the trade and then that’s a fivehundred dollar loss but i’m saving the bulk
[Casey Stubbs]: of my money to enter in ata better time and so then the next
[Casey Stubbs]: time if i lose five hundred thenext time i’ll get in i might make
[Casey Stubbs]: a thousand or five thousand dollars evenso taking a five hundred dollar loss is
[Casey Stubbs]: not a big deal when you couldlater on make five thousand dollars and so
[Casey Stubbs]: it’s a probability you know [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: there’s no way to [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: be a great trader you can pickreally good trades i’m not saying that’s not
[Casey Stubbs]: possible yes you can do that butthere’s no way to be a hundred per
[Casey Stubbs]: cent you have to understand how riskmanagement works in trading
[Nick McGowan]: now how do you tie that tokind of daily life to be able to
[Nick McGowan]: manage not only your mindset but therisk that you take because you also
[Casey Stubbs]: yes [Nick McGowan]: stated you have nine kids and ifeverything went down with all of your trades
[Nick McGowan]: and you lost all of your moneyi feel like you would still be all
[Nick McGowan]: right like you seemed like that typeof guy that you’d figured out obviously that
[Nick McGowan]: would suck and it would be terriblebut you’d figure it out and the fact
[Nick McGowan]: that [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: you said you’ve planned i’m sure you’vethought of that so what happened what would
[Nick McGowan]: happen if that were to happen [Casey Stubbs]: so that’s a great question [Nick McGowan]: h [Casey Stubbs]: first of all it’s [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: not going to happen because i juststop if i have a bad day i
[Casey Stubbs]: just stop right because i come back [Nick McGowan]: good [Casey Stubbs]: i refresh and reset and all ican tell you my process and my
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: mind set sto but in a bitbut to answer your question yeah i would
[Casey Stubbs]: be okay because of planning and theni also have multiple streams of revenue because
[Casey Stubbs]: i’m a marketer i have my [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: website i make money from my website [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: part of the marketing budget that iuse as i sell sell traffic right so
[Casey Stubbs]: i [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: i’m a traffic guy [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: i sell traffic so i generate leadsand i sell traffic have an online course
[Casey Stubbs]: that i sell so i have multbull streams of revenue and then trading is
[Casey Stubbs]: one of those streams [Nick McGowan]: gotcha okay [Casey Stubbs]: my [Nick McGowan]: cool [Casey Stubbs]: podcast [Nick McGowan]: eat [Casey Stubbs]: over podcast that’s monetized [Nick McGowan]: yeah i love that and especially asyou and i both know podcasting is huge
[Nick McGowan]: especially for degeneration and brand awareness andscratches so many of those things but then
[Nick McGowan]: also opens you up to new conversantis to be able to get into stuff
[Nick McGowan]: with people that could either become anew client or something that you learn and
[Nick McGowan]: you’re able to toss in your intoyour work so most of the people that
[Nick McGowan]: listen to the show i don’t thinki have a high percent age of traders
[Nick McGowan]: as full time but m not entirelysure there may be a lot more than
[Nick McGowan]: what i what i think about buti think at the core principles that you
[Nick McGowan]: use in your trading you manage yourmind set walk us through that what does
[Nick McGowan]: that look like what are some ofthe protocols that you go through
[Casey Stubbs]: m okay so i really believe thatas human beings especially high performance right so
[Casey Stubbs]: i look at myself as a highperformance person like an athlete if you’re a
[Casey Stubbs]: business person you want to be highperformance if you are
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: rat or you want to be highperformance if you’re an athlete you want to
[Casey Stubbs]: be high performance i think if you’rea human being you want to be high
[Casey Stubbs]: performance that’s [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: my mind set [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: okay so i have a daily routineand part of being high performance is to
[Casey Stubbs]: give myself [Nick McGowan]: that’s [Casey Stubbs]: space space [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: to think because because my mind isthe biggest super computer that i have and
[Casey Stubbs]: so i don’t want [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: to be sitting here glued i phonein the mornings
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: i just don’t do it discipline myselfand i don’t get on my phone i
[Casey Stubbs]: don’t go through social media what ido is i sit back i chill and
[Casey Stubbs]: i get my no book right andi start writing and i start reading and
[Casey Stubbs]: i have a step by step dailyprocess that i do and so it’s a
[Casey Stubbs]: daily routine that includes reading includes prayerincludes exercise journaling daily planning nutrition hydration right
[Casey Stubbs]: and that’s the very first thing ido all of that
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: every single day before i even sitdown at a computer
[Nick McGowan]: i love that it’s funny as youread that off i can i can think
[Nick McGowan]: from somebody else’s perspective of oh mygod that is a ton of stuff that
[Nick McGowan]: needs to be done but in allreality that could be done in fifteen it’s
[Nick McGowan]: like if you really needed to doit in a pinch you can do it
[Nick McGowan]: in fifteen minutes and you can stretchit out to however long you want how
[Nick McGowan]: long is your typical morning routine [Casey Stubbs]: so for me it’s like it tobe about an hour and a half but
[Casey Stubbs]: like you said it [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: is very it can be fast ifi need to because part of my journaling
[Casey Stubbs]: is [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: i have a systematic formula for itso like okay trading
[Nick McGowan]: h [Casey Stubbs]: what am i going to risk [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: today what’s my mind set for theday i ask my quest self questions okay
[Casey Stubbs]: what’s my emotions [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: you know how do i [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: feel because of motions can self sabotageam i experiencing any how am i not
[Casey Stubbs]: going to self savatage myself am iexperience in negative emotions did i get enough
[Casey Stubbs]: sleep you know so i’m asked [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: answering myself these specific questions then ilike to go through belief right like faith
[Casey Stubbs]: i believe that i’m going to dowell i believe that i’m going to follow
[Casey Stubbs]: the rules i believe that if ifall the system that it’s going to work
[Casey Stubbs]: because [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: if you’re goin a do somethin ougot to believe that it’s going to work
[Casey Stubbs]: right [Nick McGowan]: we don’t do it [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: come on now so i know wehaven’t really touched on the faith part but
[Nick McGowan]: even in your bio it says thatyou’re leader in the local church you’ve touched
[Nick McGowan]: on the faith a bit and [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: i’m similar faith as well [Casey Stubbs]: oh [Nick McGowan]: but how does that tie into whatyou do because when i think of three
[Nick McGowan]: times there are people especially on thechristian side of things at a you know
[Nick McGowan]: money is the root of all eviland that is complete worship because it’s not
[Nick McGowan]: it’s it’s [Casey Stubbs]: totally [Nick McGowan]: root to [Casey Stubbs]: so [Nick McGowan]: something [Casey Stubbs]: so [Nick McGowan]: right [Casey Stubbs]: so there’s [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: a verse in the bible that saysthat the love of money
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: is the root of all evil orit’s actually doesn’t even say that of all
[Casey Stubbs]: kinds of evil and so it’s [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: not money it’s the love and whatthat means is if you care more about
[Casey Stubbs]: money than you do about people inyour life then that’s pretty
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: rotten right and it doesn’t matter [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: what religion you are you can pretty [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: much [Nick McGowan]: that’s [Casey Stubbs]: agree [Nick McGowan]: just terrible [Casey Stubbs]: with that right so you you gotto take it in context and there are
[Casey Stubbs]: some believers you know so quote unquotegood people that think like that and that’s
[Casey Stubbs]: just wrong thinking money is a [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: tool right so money is totally neutraland what you do with it your actions
[Casey Stubbs]: of what you do with money isgood or evil but money itself
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: is totally neutral [Nick McGowan]: yeah and i love that you pointedout the
[Casey Stubbs]: ye [Nick McGowan]: all kinds of evil because it’s noteven saying just all evil totally everything evil
[Nick McGowan]: is just [Casey Stubbs]: right [Nick McGowan]: related directly to money [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: or the love of oh [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: but it’s all kinds of things andeven the fact to talk about context you
[Nick McGowan]: and i are talking about the contextfrom what that was written in but maybe
[Nick McGowan]: not the direct context to the actualtime that it was written in and what
[Nick McGowan]: that meant to those people which isvastly could be vastly different than what we
[Nick McGowan]: think of now i read a bookyears ago i think it was called jesus
[Nick McGowan]: and blue jeans and in the beginningof the book the lady was talking about
[Nick McGowan]: how she had a dream and someguys walking up in jean’s and then she
[Nick McGowan]: realized it was jesus and she waslike what are you doing
[Casey Stubbs]: i [Nick McGowan]: like why are you wearing jeans indream and he’s like well i come to
[Nick McGowan]: you and gens because that’s what youwear i wore
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: sandals and robes and things because that’swhat they wore
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: so here we are [Casey Stubbs]: that’s [Nick McGowan]: but [Casey Stubbs]: so [Nick McGowan]: the [Casey Stubbs]: funny [Nick McGowan]: context can be [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: yeah they text can be king [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: there you know you got to beable to kind of tie that in so
[Nick McGowan]: how do you look at the tradesand all you do with your faith along
[Nick McGowan]: with that is that more principle [Casey Stubbs]: m [Nick McGowan]: based or is it very [Casey Stubbs]: my [Nick McGowan]: legalistic sense [Casey Stubbs]: so i’m principle based you know ithink that trading is very principled and business
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: wise on principle i think principles arereally important and in a business
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: you’ve got to find really key principlesthere’s just a lot of craziness that happens
[Casey Stubbs]: in the world you know i don’tknow if you follow what’s going on in
[Casey Stubbs]: crypto but f t x big bigfirm went out of business
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: right and that’s all [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: principal stuff the guy who owned itvery young guy very inexperienced and i feel
[Casey Stubbs]: for him he made a ton ofmistakes and everyone wants to kill him and
[Casey Stubbs]: you know he did it but hedidn’t know what
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: he was doing really i think itwas just an experience and not having enough
[Casey Stubbs]: education on how to manage a balancesheet really it was just a balance sheet
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: thing he just didn’t have any ideahow much money he was out of sorts
[Nick McGowan]: yeah and that was that’s insane withall of that so let’s touch on that
[Nick McGowan]: a bit because i know [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: some of the audience is either deepinto crypto and they’re feeling that pain and
[Nick McGowan]: kind of going along the bobs andups and downs of that water but how
[Nick McGowan]: do you feel about that and howdoes that relate to what you do
[Casey Stubbs]: so i still am a big supporterof bit coin and other a couple of
[Casey Stubbs]: other cryptoes but mainly bit coin because [Nick McGowan]: the stable [Casey Stubbs]: the [Nick McGowan]: coins [Casey Stubbs]: idea is so cool because it’s [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: the problem with f t x isthat it was operating like a bank the
[Casey Stubbs]: reason that they went out of businessis because they took customer funds and they
[Casey Stubbs]: were using those funds to make moneyand what does a bank do
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: a bank [Nick McGowan]: exactly [Casey Stubbs]: uses customer [Nick McGowan]: that [Casey Stubbs]: funds your bank Nick only had avery tiny tiny percentage of your money right
[Casey Stubbs]: so it’s like one percent or somethingyou know it’s very small
[Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: right so if [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: everybody makes it just like in thisgreat depression if everybody makes a bank run
[Casey Stubbs]: they’re gone [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: right and that’s what happened with ft x because the competitor the owner of
[Casey Stubbs]: buynance their number one com competitor sayswe’re selling all of our f t x
[Casey Stubbs]: token we don’t trust them and sothen everybody else did what binding s did
[Casey Stubbs]: and everybody [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: made a bank run at the sametime and it crashed him
[Nick McGowan]: man [Casey Stubbs]: right so it was partially a competitivemaneuver by the founder of finance and so
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: this could happen to your bank itcould happen anywhere but the key thing about
[Casey Stubbs]: crypto is that you’re supposed to haveprotection because you’re supposed to be holding your
[Casey Stubbs]: crypto in your own wallet and yourown code
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: offline right then you’re not the wholeidea of crypto the whole recent it was
[Casey Stubbs]: created was because you don’t have totrust a bank right and now
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: sudden they’re like oh well here let’smake a crypto bank and we’re going to
[Casey Stubbs]: trust [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: these crypto banks hold our money [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: well you just run and run intothe exact same problem with the original bank
[Casey Stubbs]: i was just listening to michael sailorwho is a really big bit coin enthusiast
[Casey Stubbs]: he’s a billionaire and he said lookyou can’t trust somebody with that kind of
[Casey Stubbs]: power right when you got [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: one person who’s controlling billions and billionsand billions of dollars it’s so much pressure
[Casey Stubbs]: on an individual just take responsibility andput it in your own hand and store
[Casey Stubbs]: your bit coin in your wallet [Nick McGowan]: yeah yeah she’s yeah it’s crazy ithink of the competitive maneuver keeps coming to
[Nick McGowan]: mind because that is a solid playfor
[Casey Stubbs]: oh [Nick McGowan]: finance to go we’re pushing this buttonand everybody else is just going to flush
[Nick McGowan]: the system [Casey Stubbs]: yea he knew that [Nick McGowan]: it’s [Casey Stubbs]: he had [Nick McGowan]: interestin [Casey Stubbs]: he had a week end [Nick McGowan]: yeah what a what a play like [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: on one hand i love the thesales play of that like the business kind
[Nick McGowan]: of play of it but it alsoties into the mind set of how these
[Nick McGowan]: people work you [Casey Stubbs]: right [Nick McGowan]: know when somebody is in that spotsomebody else can come along
[Casey Stubbs]: ah [Nick McGowan]: and just literally take their lunch fromthem by hitting one button and knowing which
[Nick McGowan]: button to push that’s the biggest thingand i think there’s a lot of people
[Nick McGowan]: that they have no idea what buttonto push they have no idea how to
[Nick McGowan]: do it and they would be scaredshipless to actually hit the button in themselves
[Casey Stubbs]: right [Nick McGowan]: so if we [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: just separate from business it’s just thiswithin yourself so tying back to the finances
[Casey Stubbs]: m [Nick McGowan]: i think there are a lot ofpeople that can live pay check to pay
[Nick McGowan]: check and we’ve all experience that atone point or another hopefully it’s not a
[Nick McGowan]: consistent consistent problem but you experience thatthen you do things to be able to
[Nick McGowan]: get out of it so let’s saysomebody’s in that spot right now where they’re
[Nick McGowan]: like look i’m living pay check topay check i want to be able to
[Nick McGowan]: get out of this what sort oftactical advice would you give them to be
[Nick McGowan]: able to do that [Casey Stubbs]: well that’s a great question Nick andi almost wanted to turn one one question
[Casey Stubbs]: around to you so i might counterthis answer with a question just
[Nick McGowan]: okay [Casey Stubbs]: because i’m curious um i recommend fromwhat my friend blake told
[Nick McGowan]: ah [Casey Stubbs]: me who was a guest on myshow he’s a really successful currency trader and
[Casey Stubbs]: he says hey when you’re digging ahole first thing you need to do is
[Casey Stubbs]: drop the shovel so if you’re livingpay check to pay check there’s a reason
[Casey Stubbs]: and it’s usually because you’re digging ahole
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: right so just [Nick McGowan]: yep [Casey Stubbs]: drop the shovel and in this caseit means stop spending immediately
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: immediy go to your budget and findout all the excess and you know spend
[Casey Stubbs]: some time go over it with afine tooth comb and cut cut cut look
[Casey Stubbs]: i have been there in business i’vebeen there i’ve over i’ve made so many
[Nick McGowan]: m oh [Casey Stubbs]: mistakes in business i’ve overleveraged i’ve pouredon the
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: gas too high i’ve gotten into debtbecause i’m trying to grow so fast and
[Casey Stubbs]: the next thing you know i’m ina huge hole i’m thinking i’m the best
[Casey Stubbs]: business guy ever i get it [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: but at the end of the daythe way that i survived was i just
[Casey Stubbs]: started cutting and sometimes that means inbusiness i
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: mean gotta let people go and thatsucks like that’s not
[Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: fun i hated doing that and istill hate doing and i still have to
[Casey Stubbs]: do it sometimes [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: but um so that’s what i would [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: do just really stop spinning and thenonce you get leveled out you come up
[Casey Stubbs]: with a plan right so the questioni want to
[Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: ask you is if you ever sawthe movie the founder because there was a
[Casey Stubbs]: really good play on that as wellbecause the owner of it was the owner
[Casey Stubbs]: of macdonald’s and he stole [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: business [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: from the mc donalds brothers [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: and he was really [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: brutal [Nick McGowan]: yeah yeah i’ve not seen the founderbut i’ve read about that story
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: and basically how he was like youguys don’t want this any more i know
[Nick McGowan]: and it’s trash right total trash yeahwe’re just going to do away with just
[Nick McGowan]: give it give it to me likewe’re totally good and that’s such a wild
[Nick McGowan]: thing where yeah all of that likeso even when you’re taking about the finance
[Nick McGowan]: guy that will be a thing thatcomes up in ten fifteen twenty years where
[Nick McGowan]: people will look at that and youknow peel it a part
[Casey Stubbs]: they [Nick McGowan]: of it [Casey Stubbs]: might make [Nick McGowan]: people [Casey Stubbs]: a [Nick McGowan]: are [Casey Stubbs]: movie [Nick McGowan]: tarting to do [Casey Stubbs]: someday [Nick McGowan]: it now oh god yeah actually onthat note and the way things move this
[Nick McGowan]: might be a movie that comes outin twenty twenty five
[Casey Stubbs]: Nick you need to start [Nick McGowan]: they’re [Casey Stubbs]: writing [Nick McGowan]: already [Casey Stubbs]: the script [Nick McGowan]: working [Casey Stubbs]: now [Nick McGowan]: on it [Casey Stubbs]: start writing [Nick McGowan]: it’s [Casey Stubbs]: the [Nick McGowan]: happening [Casey Stubbs]: script [Nick McGowan]: all right that’s it the podcast episodeis over i got a script of right
[Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: all right um man that’s interesting butyeah so good points about being able to
[Nick McGowan]: cut stuff out and i think evenfor the people that don’t live pay check
[Nick McGowan]: to pay check the people that aremega rich all of that they still have
[Nick McGowan]: to look for things because you canhemorage a little bit out of time and
[Nick McGowan]: that turns into bigger things i’ve hadsomething even even over this summer where you
[Nick McGowan]: know i budget out and i doall my stuff and i’ve got different
[Casey Stubbs]: a [Nick McGowan]: accounts and all the things you knowand like all square way and at one
[Nick McGowan]: point i had a month where ijust had like an extra couple grand that
[Nick McGowan]: i was spending and i was likewhere the hell the hell did i spend
[Nick McGowan]: what did i spend that on [Casey Stubbs]: oh [Nick McGowan]: and a couple hobbies so i waslike oh i really is what i was
[Nick McGowan]: doing where i would get up ona saturday morning go get coffee and be
[Nick McGowan]: out for a couple hours and spendsome money on the hobbies and i was
[Nick McGowan]: like i can make a change withthat by just not going out to get
[Nick McGowan]: coffee one day a week [Casey Stubbs]: oh [Nick McGowan]: and even if i do i cannotgo to certain amount of stores or one
[Nick McGowan]: store or whatever one day a weekand being able to kind of change that
[Nick McGowan]: a little bit so again back tothe restrictive thing it’s not as much of
[Nick McGowan]: a rest riction as it is togo well how do i do this differently
[Nick McGowan]: and how do you still get thatpleasure out of it or whatever you’re trying
[Nick McGowan]: to get out of it so andi appreciate you being on i appreciate your
[Nick McGowan]: jumping through all this stuff and everythingwe’ve talked about what what sort of advice
[Nick McGowan]: would you give to somebody that’s ontheir path towards self mastery
[Casey Stubbs]: so the big thing with with selfmastery is understanding that it’s a process right
[Casey Stubbs]: so it’s a process and i reallybelieve that it starts with vision i didn’t
[Casey Stubbs]: mention that get a vision you knowfigure out what you want to do with
[Casey Stubbs]: your life and [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: you know i read a lot ofbooks about it i read one called live
[Casey Stubbs]: forward by michel hit i read anotherone called vision vivid vision by cameron harold
[Casey Stubbs]: and i’ve used those to help meplay my vision and the other thing is
[Casey Stubbs]: that your mind is a real powerfultool mastery discipline is hard but you can
[Casey Stubbs]: train [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: your mind if you work at itright in another book that i was just
[Casey Stubbs]: reading was called cleaning up your mentalmess with dr carolyn leaf and she has
[Casey Stubbs]: a process that she calls a neurocycleand it’s it’s finding a habit that you
[Casey Stubbs]: want to change and it’s just it’sa synops right it goes from one side
[Casey Stubbs]: of the brain [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: to the other and it’s an addictivething that you just got to build new
[Casey Stubbs]: rain wires you literally have to [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: re wire your brain is like gettinginside of a computer and moving wires around
[Casey Stubbs]: and change it and you are incontrol of the computer you can make excuses
[Casey Stubbs]: and say my computers met up andi can’t do this i jerk i messed
[Casey Stubbs]: up my brain i’m triggered or whateveror you can re wire you know people
[Casey Stubbs]: are triggered you can re wire yourbrain and so here’s the it’s a five
[Casey Stubbs]: step profecenumber process number one is shesays to use awareness right so you just
[Casey Stubbs]: think about it then number two isreflection right so you’re aware if the problem
[Casey Stubbs]: were of the thing you want tochange the number two as you reflect on
[Casey Stubbs]: it and then the third part isto journal right you write okay this is
[Casey Stubbs]: it due to do again that’s theprocess of using your mind and letting your
[Casey Stubbs]: mind work and putting hand to paperit’s a mental process and then the fourth
[Casey Stubbs]: step in the neuro cycle is toread ses to think about it again and
[Casey Stubbs]: then the last step is an actionright so when you if you’re trying to
[Casey Stubbs]: change something and discipline [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: okay i have this [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: negative thought about i want to changenot spending that five dollars at star bucks
[Casey Stubbs]: right okay awareness what do i whatthought process goes in my mind when i
[Casey Stubbs]: want a coffee okay [Nick McGowan]: hm [Casey Stubbs]: now i’m aware of it okay andthen you you journal it out and then
[Casey Stubbs]: you say okay next time that thoughtcomes into my mind what’s my action step
[Casey Stubbs]: how [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: am i going to fix it itso then you write your action step and
[Casey Stubbs]: then you just do that every dayuntil you change your habit and she said
[Casey Stubbs]: and this is a little bit overwhelmingbut
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: it doesn’t have to take long shesaid it’s sixty three days to change to
[Casey Stubbs]: require completely [Nick McGowan]: m [Casey Stubbs]: require your brain and so so that’swhat i do i do that and then
[Casey Stubbs]: i just worked on one thing ata time and there’s a couple of other
[Casey Stubbs]: resources i’ve mentioned a lot o alsoatomic habits by james clear
[Nick McGowan]: of [Casey Stubbs]: you know [Nick McGowan]: course [Casey Stubbs]: that’s another really good one to use [Nick McGowan]: yeah [Casey Stubbs]: and then um john as ruff didn’tread a book of his but i follow
[Casey Stubbs]: him on twitter and he’s a brainexpert to he says that your brain prioritizes
[Casey Stubbs]: the things that you think about rightso again that’s going back and thinking and
[Casey Stubbs]: letting your brain do the work foryou and it will prirtoprioritize it but you
[Casey Stubbs]: have to take attention have social mediawe have a lot of things we’re not
[Casey Stubbs]: focusing but if we put our attentionon things that allows your brain to do
[Casey Stubbs]: what it’s created to do [Nick McGowan]: bsolutely that’s a great way to endthis man again i appreciate your time i
[Nick McGowan]: appreciate being on before we let yougo where can everybody find you and where
[Nick McGowan]: can they connect with you [Casey Stubbs]: so my website is trading strategy guidesdot com and i have a gift for
[Casey Stubbs]: people that were listening if they’re interestedin learning about trading it’s trading strategy guides
[Casey Stubbs]: dot um forward slash podcast i havelike a free guide that they can get
[Casey Stubbs]: on teaching them how to trade [Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: and if they go there too theycan connect with me on facebook and
[Nick McGowan]: oh [Casey Stubbs]: twitter and linked in because you knowthat where we connected i’m very pretty active
[Casey Stubbs]: on social so if you want toask me a question or connect with me
[Casey Stubbs]: on there i’m very connectable [Nick McGowan]: absolutely [Casey Stubbs]: yeah [Nick McGowan]: i’m goin to test that especially onlinked in know we’ve gotten some good conversations
[Nick McGowan]: through some good chats and all thaton different people’s post and even some of
[Nick McGowan]: our own again case it’s been absolutelyawesome to have you on the show man

[Casey Stubbs]: thanks Nick
